Skagway
Karen Knowlton
We took
the Skagway Streetcar Co. tour, a shortened version being the "included"
excursion on our cruise (Cruise West), though we paid the extra for the
longer version. Anyone who holds a special place in their heart for
Yellowstone or Glacier National Park should consider spending at least a
little time in these vehicles, as they were the original touring "cars" in
both of those parks - literally. All of them have been brought to Skagway
over the years, and most have not been renovated in the least. Just
getting a good look at the mechanics of driving was fun! Drivers were
young ladies in Gold Rush-era garb, and they told entertaining tales of
Skagway's mining days. Not as spectacular or scenic as the White Pass RR,
but lots of fun, and a nice little overview of Skagway history. (And very
meaningful to those of us to whom past years in YNP and GNP are an
important part of our lives!)
